Fishing with Fathers & Sons – Making Memories on the River!
On Fishing with Fathers and Sons
By Ron Pecore
Recently it seems many of my trips have been with fathers and sons, of all ages and levels of experience. Sharing these special times and being a part of making such long lasting memories is simply awesome! Encouragement, competition, and best of all humor flow throughout these river days. Whether challenging each other to catch the next biggest trout or laughing over the latest LDR (Long Distance Release), these father-son trips are pure fun!
My fellow guides and I are so fortunate to be able to witness so many of these great days while sharing our knowledge and trout tricks with these dad-son duos. For me, as each trip progresses through the day, I find great joy in guiding both anglers to become progressively more successful on their own and with each other!
Being able to do something as magical as fly fishing together undoubtedly contributes to the bond felt between father and son – whether the anglers are first-timers or seasoned veterans! Any way I can encourage or share new skills and confidence in this way is extremely gratifying. At the end of our trip together, I love it when father and son are already planning their next fishing adventure together, eager to apply all the new tricks they have learned!
A guided fly fishing trip is an opportunity to light a fly fishing fire – making memories, planning adventure, and having fun together! Fishing buddies for life are fathers and sons. Fly fishing is a shared activity that truly endures…as sons one day become fathers, tradition continues.
I would give anything to fish with my father one more time. I know I will someday…but for now my role is to make him proud by being the teacher to these fathers and sons. We are all blessed to share this sport I love so dearly.
