Hatches: Chartreuse Midges around noon – no surface activity

 

Fish Behavior/Location: Very lethargic/sitting on bottom

 

Fish location/where caught: Riffles, and deeper runs/slots. Also, in the run tail outs.

 

Where in water column: Bottom

 

Any other feeding behavior you noticed? Very subtle strikes

 

Ballpark number of fish landed/size: Landed 7 fish, three in the 18/19 inch range, the others about 14/16

inches

 

Type of fish: Rainbow Trout, and Cutthroat Trout

 

 

Flies that worked/sizes: All were on #22 Mercury FB Black Beauties, and #22-#24 Grey RS II’s.

 

 

Other Comments: Need to be patient and really work the runs – multiple drifts. I was fishing behind guys who were working the water quickly and not catching anything. I came in behind and worked the water they had just fished and caught fish they had missed. Set on everything! The strikes were very subtle.
