Rainbow, Brown, and Cuttbow Trout

The Arkansas tailwater below Pueblo Reservoir is one of Colorado’s best fisheries, period. This premier tailwater offers excellent opportunities for big Rainbow, Brown, and Cuttbow Trout, with typically less crowding than commonly seen on other famous Colorado tailwaters. Located at lower elevation, this section of the Arkansas River remains ice-free throughout the winter. While many of our other favorite rivers are iced over, or low temps create frigid fishing experiences, the typical winter weather in Pueblo offers very pleasant fishing temps, free flowing water, and lots of hungry trout. It all adds up to a perfect fall, winter, and spring fly fishing destination. Midges and mayflies hatch in abundance here and dry fly fishing can be epic – even in the middle of January!

FAQ's

The low elevation makes Pueblo an excellent winter fishery! We also like to fish Pueblo through March and into April as there can be great hatches.
